A Street Accident

A Street Accident

Street accident is a daily affair in Bangladesh. Street accidents generally take place on busy roads. There are many causes of street accidents. Bad condition of roads,  excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, reckless driving and disobeying of traffic rules are the main reasons of street accidents.  Lack of public awareness is also responsible for accidents.

Very often people try to cross the road without following traffic signs and rules, As a result they are run over by vehicles. Unfit vehicles and unskilled drivers are responsible for this. Street accidents have dreadful effects in our life. Every year thousands of people lose their lives and many more are injured in street accidents. We must take some steps in order to get rid of this national problem. Traffic rules must be enforced strictly. The reckless drivers must be given exemplary punishment. Besides,  construction of spacious roads  will minimize the problem. Non motorized vehicles must not be allowed to ply on the highways and people must be conscious while crossing the road.

Tree Plantation

                                               TREE  PLANTATION

Tree plantation means planting trees at a large scale. The purpose of planting trees is to save the endangered environment. We cannot think of our existence on the earth without trees. Trees protect us from natural calamities like cyclones, mudslides, floods, etc. They give us oxygen and take up carbon dioxide. And thus they maintain ecological balance. So trees are the most valuable asset to a country. The best time for tree plantation is the rainy season. We can plant trees around our dwelling places and in open

places. Moreover, we can plant trees on the side of the roads, rivers, canals and playing fields. Bangladesh government observes national tree plantation week every year. In order to make it successful, we need to raise mass awareness among the people. However, the government alone cannot make it a success. Also, free distribution of plants and saplings can make it a success. We all should plant more trees to live healthily and to save the mother earth.

International Mother Language Day

             INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY

International Mother Language Day is observed every year on February 21st in Bangladesh and other countries around the world. It celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity and promotes the importance of mother languages. The day is particularly significant for Bangladesh as it commemorates the Language Movement martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of Bangla as
their state language. On this day, people pay homage to the Language Movement martyrs by placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, a monument built in their memory. The monument is adorned suitably, and people offer flowers to pay their respects. TV and radio channels hold discussions and air special programs on this auspicious day. In schools and colleges, commemorative  programs are organized to mark the occasion. Students participate in various cultural activities including recitation, singing, and storytelling, painting to showcase the beauty and richness of their mother language. The day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Language Movement martyrs and their contribution to the recognition of Bangla as their state language.

Gender Discrimination

                                     GENDER DISCRIMINATION

Gender discrimination is the unfair treatment of individuals based on their gender. It is a real and persistent problem in our society. This can happen in workplaces, schools, and other public areas. It can take many forms, such as unequal pay, denial of opportunities, or sexual harassment. This can happen when women are paid less than men for doing the same job, or when people are treated differently based on their gender. Stereotypes about how women and men, girls and boys should be, start from their childhood and follow them to adulthood. Thus, it does not affect just one but all. Gender discrimination has a

negative impact on both men and women, and it needs to be tackled headlong. While it may not be as overt as it once was, it still exists in subtle ways. We need to continue to work towards equality for all, so that all have the same opportunities regardless of their gender. Only then can we truly create a fair and just society for all. We hope that by raising awareness of this issue, we can bring about real change and make the world a more fair and just place for everyone.

A Moon-lit Night

                                              A MOON-LIT NIGHT

A moonlit night is a captivating sight, as the silvery glow of the moon illuminates the world in its soft, gentle light. The night sky becomes a canvas adorned with the twinkling stars, creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere. This celestial beauty often inspires feelings of tranquility, wonder, and a sense of connection with the natural world. People often find solace and relaxation during moonlit evenings, as the ethereal ambiance soothes their minds and hearts. A moonlit night is pleasant to all; especially the poets, who are charmed by its

beauty and are roused to write under the silvery light of the moon. Rural and urban people go to sit in the fields and gossip under the soft light of the moon. Some go for boating in the river or lakes. As we are fond of beauty, we cannot ignore the ethereal beauty of the moon when it comes out with all its glory. We feel united with nature and thank the Almighty for the simple pleasures of life we get during a moonlit night.

Price Hike

 Price Hike

Price-hike means the unusual increase in the prices of daily necessaries. There has been a significant increase in prices across various industries, causing concern and frustration among consumers. The price hike is being attributed to supply chain disruptions, increase in demand, and inflation. Unscrupulous businessmen also increase prices by hoarding food items and causing artificial crisis.

The most affected industry is the food industry, with the prices of grain, vegetables, and meat seeing a steep increase. This has put a strain on households already struggling to make ends meet. Due to Dollar crisis, the government has to cut back on imports which have further aggravated the current situation. Overall, the price hike has resulted in consumers cutting back on their spending or be more calculative. No one is sure when or how long this trend will continue and what solutions can be implemented to help alleviate the financial burden on the common people. The Government should take drastic steps to reduce price-hike. All syndicates must be destroyed and inflation controlled. The public should not panic into storing food stuffs which will lead to shortage and further contribute to price-hike.

Food Adulteration

Food Adulteration

Food adulteration is the act of intentionally debasing the quality of food by adding or replacing food substances to lower the cost of a food product. When food fails to meet the legal standards set by the health department of a government, it is considered adulterated. Consuming adulterated food can cause various health problems such as stomach disorders,  joint pain, diarrhea, liver disorders, various chronic diseases, and other health issues. Intentional food adulteration include the addition of melamine to milk to increase its protein content, the addition of lead chromate to turmeric to enhance its color, and the addition of

Sudan dye to chili powder to improve its color. Intentional adulteration can occur easily and poses a significant threat to public health and safety. Therefore, it is essential  to prevent  food adulteration by developing a food defense plan, conducting vulnerability assessments and implementing mitigation strategies. Authentic testing of food and adulterant detection of  is  required for value assessment and to assure consumer protection against such activities.

A Book Fair

 A BOOK FAIR

A book fair is an event where different books are brought for both sale and display. In our country, it is held in almost all cities and towns. Bangla Academy arranges the fair in memory of our language martyrs. It is termed as “Amor Ekushey Boi Mela.” It is held during the month of February and is the most important event for book lovers.

A book fair offers an opportunity to assess the advancement made in the publication of books. A book fair helps to create new writers as well as new readers. It inspires common people to form the habit of reading books. Book fairs usually bear the testimony of the refined tastes and national culture of a country. They change our outlook on our minds and widen our domain of knowledge. As for myself, I am always eager to visit  a book fair. I was really fortunate as I have met some eminent writers in our country and I took autographs from them. A book fair always upholds our culture in the arena of world literature.

A Street Hawker

A STREET HAWKER

A street hawker is a person who goes out on the street or from door to door and shouts or ‘hawks’ to sell his products. Nowadays, street side vendors are also called hawkers. Hawkers sell a variety of goods, and their products are quite cheap. Busy thoroughfares of a city are the favourite place for hawkers where they spread their wares for attracting customers. There are clothing, toys, vegetables, crockery, magazines, CDs and DVDs, and even electronic goods. On any given day, customers can be seen bargaining with hawkers to buy goods. Even women are found as hawkers but their goods are mostly cheap ornaments and dresses. Hawkers pose problems as well. They occupy pavements

and encroach upon roads and impede the movement of pedestrians and vehicles. There are also squabbles with customers. Pickpockets are also active near the hawkers. Nonetheless, hawkers do some good and so we should devise a solution to have a win-win situation for all. Hawkers should be allocated open spaces where they can do their business and the people can avail the goods at a cheap rate.
