Age and Longevity

                                 Age and Longevity

In the modern era, individuals are living longer than ever before. This increase in longevity can primarily be attributed to advancements in medical technology, as well as improvements in overall healthcare. As a result, age has become a significant topic of discussion, as society grapples with the implications of an aging population. From medical research to social and economic considerations, age and longevity remain a critical area of exploration.

One of the most vital aspects of age and longevity is the study of aging itself. Scientists and researchers have dedicated countless hours to unraveling the mysteries of why we age and what factors contribute to increased longevity. It is well-known that genetics play a crucial role in determining how long an individual will live. However, recent studies have shown that lifestyle choices and environmental factors can also significantly impact longevity.

Research has shown that maintaining a healthy lifestyle can have a significant impact on an individual's lifespan. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding harmful habits such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can all contribute to a longer and healthier life. Additionally, stress management techniques, such as meditation or finding time for hobbies and relaxation, have also been linked to increased longevity.

Furthermore, social connections and a sense of purpose have been found to be influential factors in promoting longevity. Studies have found that individuals with strong social networks and who participate in meaningful activities tend to live longer than those who are socially isolated. This emphasizes the importance of maintaining relationships and actively engaging in one's community, even as we age.

From a medical perspective, advancements in healthcare have greatly improved the chances of a longer life. The development of new treatment options, diagnostic tools, and preventive measures have all contributed to an increase in life expectancy. Chronic diseases that were once considered incurable or fatal can now be effectively managed, allowing individuals to live longer and healthier lives.

However, with the increasing aging population, there are also social and economic implications that need to be considered. As individuals live longer, the demand for healthcare services and support systems for the elderly grows. This puts pressure on governments, healthcare systems, and families to ensure that adequate resources are available to care for aging populations in a sustainable and compassionate manner.

In conclusion, age and longevity have become crucial topics in modern society. As we continue to live longer, it is essential to understand the factors that contribute to increased longevity and to make informed choices that promote a healthy lifestyle. Through continued research, advancements in medical technology, and an emphasis on social connections and community engagement, we can ensure that longer lives are not just a numerical increase but also a fulfillment of a quality life. The implications of an aging population require careful consideration, requiring society to adapt and provide necessary support systems to promote health and well-being in individuals of all ages.

My Favourite Hobby

MY FAVOURITE HOBBY

Hobby is an activity which one indulges in her/his leisure time/hours. It can be anything from a sport or activity to a creative endeavor like painting or writing. Almost anything you do can become a hobby. To some it is merely a pastime but to others, it is an obsession.

I have many different hobbies, such as reading story books, making handicrafts, collecting stamps, etc. Among these I will term making handicrafts as my favourite. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that I spend all of my spare time making handicrafts. Only when an idea or an image strikes me that I dive into the crafting with gusto. I like to work on miniature figurines. I consider this as my specialty. I find immense pleasure not only when I see the finished product but also the process itself. I feel like a creator as the figures transform from a lump of clay or plasticine to a realistic image of an animal, a boat, a hut, a farmer or some other form.
The work is quite intricate and requires a lot of patience. I am by nature a restless girl but when it comes to this hobby I can be very methodical.
Craft making instills patience, diligence and creativity in a person. Crafts can be a hands-on way to practice and apply new skills or knowledge. This form of creation is especially good for kinesthetic learners who can retain information more effectively when they can move their bodies and interact with their environments.
I have big plans regarding this hobby. When I have a considerable number of figurines I plan to stage an exhibition along with my other friends who have also taken up this hobby.
Although I am immersed in this work in my spare time, I do not wish to pursue my career in this line. I intend to keep this purely as a hobby at present and in the future.

The Season I like Most

   THE SEASON I LIKE MOST

Bangladesh is a country of six seasons. It is a unique phenomenon in the world. The heavy rainfall carried by the moisture laden monsoon winds give Bangladesh its unique climate. And this season, called the Rainy season, is my favourite season.

Let us first dwell on its merits. The rainy season is a boon for the agriculture of Bangladesh. But rainy season has a completely different appeal to me. The season brings a unique freshness to the environment all around. Though it means I have to stay indoors most of the time but I never miss the chance of going to the roof to have the firsthand experience of the rain; drenching and cleansing my body and soul.

If I have nothing to do and feel bored, I have only to look out the window and find nature in its full glory. Even if my eyes are closed I can feel the gentle pitter-patter of raindrops falling on the window pane. Not only the raindrops, the rainy season showcases all of nature’s characteristics; the grumbling of thunder, the intermittent lightning and the sky full of dark ashen clouds. It is also the season of khichuri and Ilish. Normally, I am not much of a fan of khichuri, but it is the rainy season and I am certainly not averse to having this delicious item. As stated earlier, rains bring happiness to the farmer for his crops. Even though I am not with the farmers physically, in spirit I share their joy.

The rainy season has some demerits too. As Bangladesh is a riverine country, too much rainfall causes widespread flooding and brings untold miseries to the affected people. Also numerous infectious diseases proliferate as a result of frequent heavy rains, muggy weather, and high winds. Viral fevers, colds, swine flu, and stomach viruses are a few of the frequent medical issues that arise during the rainy season.

All said and done, I believe my liking for this season is the simplicity by which I view nature. And I think there are quite a few who share my feeling for this beautiful season.

Natural Calamities in Bangladesh

                            NATURAL CALAMITIES IN BANGLADESH

A natural disaster is "the negative impact following an actual occurrence of natural hazard in the event that it significantly harms a community". A natural disaster can cause loss of life or damage property, and typically leaves economic damage in its wake. Bangladesh  is such a country that is affected by various natural calamities almost every year because of its location and geography.

Bangladesh is a low-lying deltaic country that is universally recognized to be highly vulnerable to climate-related disasters, particularly riverine and coastal flooding
. Among
the calamities, flood is the most common here. Just before the advent of the monsoon, cyclones hit the coastal areas of Bangladesh with much ferocity. The monsoon months of ‘Ashar’ and ‘Sravan’ generally brings in heavy rainfall and cause flooding.

The impact of flood causes big loss of lives and properties. Standing crops, streets, roads and even houses go under water. As a result, affected people suffer in many ways. They become homeless and take shelter on house roofs, trees, boats and embankments. Their miseries continue even after the flood ends. In 2007, a severe cyclonic storm called SIDR hit our southern coast resulting in tidal bores. It blew off  houses, flooded properties and caused around 15000 deaths.

The burning or cutting down of forests and other environmental pollution create an imbalance in nature which ultimately leads to these types of natural disasters.

To prevent these calamities we should plant trees and stop all types of environmental pollution. The losses from cyclones can be reduced to some extent by using modern technology of weather forecasting and prior warning. And floods can also be prevented by building  embankments and barrages and by developing a well-planned irrigation system. The government as well as conscious citizens of our country should come forward and work together to decrease the frequency and mitigate the effects of natural calamities.

Aim in Life

 Aim in Life

An aim is a particular  goal  of an individual’s life. It also means to choose a profession for future life. One cannot have prosperity and happiness if one does not have a definite aim in life.
Different men/women have different aims in life. I am a tenth grade student. I too, have a definite aim of my life. The aim of my life is to become a physicist and serve the country. Physicists study the behavior of the physical world and find practical ways to apply the gained knowledge to science and technology So I have made up my mind to be an Environmental Physicist who applies physics principles to study environmental processes. Environmental physicists may investigate climate change, pollution, and the impact of human activities on the environment.
The reason of my choice is that our country is still underdeveloped. We have to invest hugely in terms of money and policy to have an industry driven nation. Applied physics is my field of choice as I can work in practical settings.
To be a physicist, one has to study hard, especially math and physics. One should be analytical and able to visualize ideas. As physics touches every aspect of life, it is my aim to be a physicist.

The biggest advantage of being a physicist is that I can find jobs in many places worldwide. I am really honest and passionate about my aim in life. It is surely a long journey but I will try my best to reach my goal and I suggest everyone do the same. According to me, timely execution of an action plan with a proactive attitude is the key to success in achieving one's aim in life. One of the best ways to stay motivated is by visualizing the change and likewise by achieving step-by-step milestones towards achieving the aim.

A Street Accident

A Street Accident

Street accident is a daily affair in Bangladesh. Street accidents generally take place on busy roads. There are many causes of street accidents. Bad condition of roads,  excessive speed, dangerous overtaking, reckless driving and disobeying of traffic rules are the main reasons of street accidents.  Lack of public awareness is also responsible for accidents.

Very often people try to cross the road without following traffic signs and rules, As a result they are run over by vehicles. Unfit vehicles and unskilled drivers are responsible for this. Street accidents have dreadful effects in our life. Every year thousands of people lose their lives and many more are injured in street accidents. We must take some steps in order to get rid of this national problem. Traffic rules must be enforced strictly. The reckless drivers must be given exemplary punishment. Besides,  construction of spacious roads  will minimize the problem. Non motorized vehicles must not be allowed to ply on the highways and people must be conscious while crossing the road.

Letter to your brother encouraging him to take up regular exercise

22 Jan, 2024

Dear Justin.

I hope you are fine but I am greatly concerned about your health and well being.
Your class teacher met me last night and he informed me that you were not attentive to  your studies and seem to be lethargic. Your penchant for staying up late has brought you to this state. I should point out to you that health is wealth and a balanced approach is the essence of life. You know that a sound mind is always in a sound body. You must improve your health. Here are a few suggestions for

you to follow. Keep a balance between your studies and other healthy activities. Try to go to bed early and get up early in the morning. Develop a habit of taking a morning walk and some light exercise regularly. Exercise is necessary for the proper functioning of the body and the mind. Next to exercise is the question of diet. Take milk, fruit and vegetables. Eat meat twice a week.
I hope you will accept my advice and inform me every now and then about the progress you have made in your health.

Yours sincerely,
      'Jack'

Letter to a friend about how you spent the summer vacation

Letter to a friend about how you spent the summer vacation

Dear Farista

How are you all doing? I hope you are in sound health and mind by the grace of the Almighty Allah. May Allah have mercy upon us. I am also well by his grace.

Your letter of 14th instant is to hand. In your letter you wanted to know how I will pass my summer vacation. You know that Bangladesh is a densely populated country. Again most of the people are illiterate. They do not know how to read and write. They have no knowledge about education, health family planning, and scientific method of cultivation. We all know that education is the backbone of a nation. No nation can

progress and advance without education. Most of the people of our country are deprived of the light of education which is the prerequisite condition for the betterment of any country. Ignorance can be compared to darkness. So I and some of my friends have decided to go to our village homes and spend the whole summer vacation there. There we will teach the village people to read and write. We will make them aware of the importance of education, health, proper sanitation and family planning. We’ll teach them how to cultivate their lands scientifically and spread fertilizer accordingly. In this way we would have spent our vacation fruitfully.
No more today. Convey my salaam to your parents and love to your younger brother.

 Yours ever

   Fanush

Letter to your younger brother about the bad effects of smoking

Write a letter to your younger brother telling him about the bad effects of smoking

 Dear Y,

It is a long time since I heard from you. It seems you cannot find the time to send me letters. It will be a pleasure for me if you could write me from time to time.

Recently I was shocked about the news I got about you. It was when I learnt that you have become a chain smoker. You are a fairly sensible lad. So I think that you should have realized the harmful effects of smoking. It damages the lungs day by day and decreases longevity. It causes many fatal diseases like cancer, heart attack, bronchitis, etc. It also harms the nerves, damages the brain and in extreme cases lead to drug addiction.

So, please do not do any injustice to yourself. I will be very glad if you give up this bad habit without any further delay.

Yours ever

To a foreign friend describing a Bengali festival

12.04.2021
13, Shantibagh,
Dhaka, Bangladesh

Dear Jane
It was lovely receiving your letter after so long. I am glad you had fun at your grandparents during your holidays. You had asked me in an earlier letter to tell you something about Bengali festivals.
As you know Bangladesh is home to various cultures and religions so there are numerous festivals celebrated round the year. My favourite is the Baishakhi festival which is held on 1st  Baishak  (14 April). It is the only festival which is celebrated by all the Bengalis the world over and is participated by people of all faiths.

Baishakhi is the festival of colour, fun, gaiety and tradition. On this day, boys (and men) wear Punjabi (a long loose shirt) of mainly red colour and the girls (and ladies)wear red hued sarees or kurta shalwar (a short gown and long pants). People throng at the different fairs which are held all around the country. The main program starts off at the shade of a hundred  year old Banyan tree at the Ramna Park, the largest park in Dhaka city. The event is celebrated by traditional songs, dance and puppet shows. Open air concerts are also staged at different venues all over Bangladesh. On this day people eat panta ilish;   a dish made with rice soaked in water and fried Hilsah fish. We all have lots of fund and wait eagerly for the next Baishakh to come.

It would be lovely if you could participate in this festival yourself. For now I am attaching some photos for this year’s Baishakhi festival. Hope you can recognize me! Do write soon.

Yours ever,

   Kakoly
