Junk food and healthy food represent two very different approaches to nutrition and overall health.

                Junk food is high in calories, unhealthy fats, and sugars, while being low in essential nutrients. Junk food consists of processed items that contain "empty" calories—these are foods high in saturated fats, salts and sugar. Junk food includes chips, cookies, cakes, pastries, soft drinks, ice cream, and fast foods like pizza, pasta, burgers, and French fries. Junk food can be more convenient and appealing due to its relatively lower cost, taste and availability A diet that includes a lot of junk food can lead to health issues like cancer, obesity, cardiovascular problems, and diabetes.

              In contrast, a diet rich in fresh, natural foods can lower the mentioned health risks. Healthy foods are lower in calories and full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and dietary fiber, all of which contribute to overall well-being. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grain cereals are excellent sources of dietary fiber. High-fiber foods can slow down gastric emptying, keeping one feeling full and reducing the likelihood of overeating. Additionally, fiber-rich foods help maintain healthy digestion. Contrary to popular belief, healthy foods can be made tasty by preparing them with herbs, spices, and healthier oils, using cooking methods like roasting or grilling.

                  Healthy food may not always be the easiest choice, but it maintains steady energy levels and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. While junk food provides quick satisfaction, healthy food offers nutrients that support long-term health and well-being.

আমাদের দেশ ঋতু বৈচিত্র্যে সৌন্দর্যময়। ঋতু পরিবর্তনের সাথে সাথে প্রতি বছর বয়ে যায় প্রকৃতির নতুন নতুন পর্যায়। ভিন্ন ভিন্ন রূপে ও বৈচিত্র্যে বাংলার প্রত্যেকটি ঋতুই আমাদের হৃদয়ে নাড়া দিয়ে যায়।

ঋতুর এমন লীলা-বৈচিত্রের দৃষ্টান্ত পৃথিবীর অন্য কোনো প্রান্তে খুঁজে পাওয়া দুষ্কর। গ্রীষ্ম, বর্ষা, শরৎ, হেমন্ত, শীত ও বসন্ত—এই ছয় ঋতুর নানা রূপের অসবর্ন মিলনে প্রকৃতির এই অপরূপ সজ্জা সত্যিই বিস্ময়কর।

বসন্তের রূপ-সৌন্দর্য আমার মনকে হরণ করে সেই ছেলেবেলা থেকেই। বসন্ত মানুষের কাছে সমাদৃত হয় ঋতুরাজ রূপে। বসন্তের রূপের সত্যিই কোনো অন্ত নেই। সে যেন পৃথিবীতে নবজাতকের প্রতীক। আমাদের প্রকৃতি এই সময়ে হয়ে ওঠে অপরূপা।

বসন্তের নবীন আনন্দে জীবনের হৃদয় দুয়ার যায় খুলে।  বসন্তের মাধুরী ভেসে আসে পলাশের বাহারে, পারুলের হিল্লোলে, শিরিশের হিন্দোলে।

আকাশকে নতুন রূপে সাজিয়ে তোলে শিমুল আর পলাশের রক্তিম আভা। শীতের পাতাঝরা গাছ গুলোতে নতুন করে প্রাণ। আম গাছ গুলো ভরে ওঠে মুকুলে। বাসন্তী ফুলের সুবাসে উতলা মনের আগল যায় ভেঙে। এই ঋতু বাংলার কৃষিজীবী মানুষের কাছেও বিশেষ গুরুত্ব রাখে।রবি শস্যের ফলনে ভরে ওঠে কৃষিজমি। বাংলার ফলের রাজা আম,এই আমের মুকুল আসে বসন্তে।

সেই সাথে বাঙালির প্রিয় জাম কাঁঠালেরও সূচনা এই ঋতুতেই। বসন্ত শুধু প্রকৃতিকেই নতুন রূপে উদ্ভাসিত করে না, মানুষের মনে এই ঋতু এমন এক বর্ণময়তা নিয়ে আসে যা অন্য কোনো ঋতুতে খুঁজে পাওয়া দুষ্কর। তাই বসন্ত ঋতু আমার অতি  প্রিয় ঋতু।

My Favourite Hobby

     

MY FAVOURITE HOBBY

Hobby is an activity which one indulges in her/his leisure time/hours. It can be anything from a sport or activity to a creative endeavor like painting or writing. Almost anything you do can become a hobby. To some it is merely a pastime but to others, it is an obsession.

             I have many different hobbies, such as reading story books, making handicrafts, collecting stamps, etc. Among these I will term making handicrafts as my favourite. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that I spend all of my spare time making handicrafts. Only when an idea or an image strikes me that I dive into the crafting with gusto. I like to work on miniature figurines. I consider this as my specialty. I find immense pleasure not only when I see the finished product but also the process itself. I feel like a creator as the figures transform from a lump of clay or plasticine to a realistic image of an animal, a boat, a hut, a farmer or some other form.

           The work is quite intricate and requires a lot of patience. I am by nature a restless girl but when it comes to this hobby I can be very methodical.

         Craft making instills patience, diligence and creativity in a person. Crafts can be a hands-on way to practice and apply new skills or knowledge. This form of creation is especially good for kinesthetic learners who can retain information more effectively when they can move their bodies and interact with their environments.

           I have big plans regarding this hobby. When I have a considerable number of figurines I plan to stage an exhibition along with my other friends who have also taken up this hobby.

           Although I am immersed in this work in my spare time, I do not wish to pursue my career in this line. I intend to keep this purely as a hobby at present and in the future.

The Season I like Most

   THE SEASON I LIKE MOST  

Bangladesh is a country of six seasons. It is a unique phenomenon in the world. The heavy rainfall carried by the moisture laden monsoon winds give Bangladesh its unique climate. And this season, called the Rainy season, is my favourite season.

        Let us first dwell on its merits. The rainy season is a boon for the agriculture of Bangladesh. But rainy season has a completely different appeal to me. The season brings a unique freshness to the environment all around. Though it means I have to stay indoors most of the time but I never miss the chance of going to the roof to have the firsthand experience of the rain; drenching and cleansing my body and soul.

           If I have nothing to do and feel bored, I have only to look out the window and find nature in its full glory. Even if my eyes are closed I can feel the gentle pitter-patter of raindrops falling on the window pane. Not only the raindrops, the rainy season showcases all of nature’s characteristics; the grumbling of thunder, the intermittent lightning and the sky full of dark ashen clouds. It is also the season of khichuri and Ilish. Normally, I am not much of a fan of khichuri, but it is the rainy season and I am certainly not averse to having this delicious item. As stated earlier, rains bring happiness to the farmer for his crops. Even though I am not with the farmers physically, in spirit I share their joy.

         The rainy season has some demerits too. As Bangladesh is a riverine country, too much rainfall causes widespread flooding and brings untold miseries to the affected people. Also numerous infectious diseases proliferate as a result of frequent heavy rains, muggy weather, and high winds. Viral fevers, colds, swine flu, and stomach viruses are a few of the frequent medical issues that arise during the rainy season.

       All said and done, I believe my liking for this season is the simplicity by which I view nature. And I think there are quite a few who share my feeling for this beautiful season.

                            NATURAL CALAMITIES IN BANGLADESH

A natural disaster is "the negative impact following an actual occurrence of natural hazard in the event that it significantly harms a community". A natural disaster can cause loss of life or damage property, and typically leaves economic damage in its wake. Bangladesh  is such a country that is affected by various natural calamities almost every year because of its location and geography.

Bangladesh is a low-lying deltaic country that is universally recognized to be highly vulnerable to climate-related disasters, particularly riverine and coastal flooding. Among the calamities, flood is the most common here. Just before the advent of the monsoon, cyclones hit the coastal areas of Bangladesh with much ferocity. The monsoon months of ‘Ashar’ and ‘Sravan’ generally brings in heavy rainfall and cause flooding.

The impact of flood causes big loss of lives and properties. Standing crops, streets, roads and even houses go under water. As a result, affected people suffer in many ways. They become homeless and take shelter on house roofs, trees, boats and embankments. Their miseries continue even after the flood ends. In 2007, a severe cyclonic storm called SIDR hit our southern coast resulting in tidal bores. It blew off  houses, flooded properties and caused around 15000 deaths.

The burning or cutting down of forests and other environmental pollution create an imbalance in nature which ultimately leads to these types of natural disasters.

 To prevent these calamities we should plant trees and stop all types of environmental pollution. The losses from cyclones can be reduced to some extent by using modern technology of weather forecasting and prior warning. And floods can also be prevented by building  embankments and barrages and by developing a well-planned irrigation system. The government as well as conscious citizens of our country should come forward and work together to decrease the frequency and mitigate the effects of natural calamities.

 Aim in Life

An aim is a particular  goal  of an individual’s life. It also means to choose a profession for future life. One cannot have prosperity and happiness if one does not have a definite aim in life.
 Different men/women have different aims in life. I am a tenth grade student. I too, have a definite aim of my life. The aim of my life is to become a physicist and serve the country. Physicists study the behavior of the physical world and find practical ways to apply the gained knowledge to science and technology So I have made up my mind to be an Environmental Physicist who applies physics principles to study environmental processes. Environmental physicists may investigate climate change, pollution, and the impact of human activities on the environment.
The reason of my choice is that our country is still underdeveloped. We have to invest hugely in terms of money and policy to have an industry driven nation. Applied physics is my field of choice as I can work in practical settings.
To be a physicist, one has to study hard, especially math and physics. One should be analytical and able to visualize ideas. As physics touches every aspect of life, it is my aim to be a physicist.

The biggest advantage of being a physicist is that I can find jobs in many places worldwide. I am really honest and passionate about my aim in life. It is surely a long journey but I will try my best to reach my goal and I suggest everyone do the same. According to me, timely execution of an action plan with a proactive attitude is the key to success in achieving one's aim in life. One of the best ways to stay motivated is by visualizing the change and likewise by achieving step-by-step milestones towards achieving the aim.

The importance of fire safety has been recognized throughout history, and several  influencers have participated in its development. In this essay, we look at the historical context of fire safety, analyze its effects on society and discuss  future developments.

Fire has been a constant threat to human civilization, with devastating consequences. Romans and Greeks were among the first to develop elementary firefighting techniques, using water and basic tools to combat fires. The Great Fire of London  led to the establishment of the first organized firefighting service.

Development  in technology and infrastructure have greatly improved fire safety measures. Fire alarms, sprinkler systems, extinguishers and fire-resistant materials has helped to prevent and lessen the impact of fires. The application of building codes and regulations has ensured that buildings are constructed so that the risk of fire spreading is minimal.

Catherine Ferguson, a significant figure in fire safety history, and her organization provided financial support to firefighters and their families, thereby raising community awareness.

Despite these advancements, there are still challenges of fire safety. One issue is the lack of compliance with fire safety regulations, particularly in developing countries. The use of flammable materials in building construction and insufficient training for firefighters can pose significant risks to public safety. Solving  these challenges require a concerted effort from governments, businesses, and individuals to prioritize fire safety and invest in preventive measures. 

Technological advancements in firefighting equipment, such as smart sensors, drones, and artificial intelligence, are revolutionizing fire detection and extinguishing, while research into new materials and building design concepts is shaping future fire safety.

In conclusion, we can say that fire safety is a critical aspect of society that has evolved over time. The prevention and management of fires is a priority for communities around the world. Despite challenges and shortcomings, the field of fire safety continues to evolve, driven by a commitment to protecting lives and property. A Journey by Boat

               A JOURNEY BY BOAT

Journey is always a pleasurable experience for all and I am also not an exception. I never miss the chance to go on a journey, especially if it means going on a boat ride. Since Bangladesh is a riverine country, a boat ride gives one the clearest picture of the scenic beauty of Bangladesh.

    A few days ago, I went on a journey by boat from Mongla to Paikgacha during my Autumn vacation. We were 6 in number and I was entrusted to hire an engine fitted boat. The boatmen were nice people. We had our breakfast early in the morning. We started off at 7:00 am. The sky was clear and the weather was sunny. The river was calm but full to the brim. The boat began to move smoothly; there were small waves on the river. We enjoyed the scenes on both sides of the river. There were green fields, paddy fields and jute fields, rows of trees which were full of flowers. These things charmed our eyes and soothed our souls. We saw many boys and girls diving and swimming in the river. Fishermen were catching fish and the women were seen fetching water in colorful pitchers. We reached a village market at around 12 pm. The boatmen cast anchor and we got down. We bought rice, eggs, a big hilsha fish and curds. The boatman kindly offered to cook the dinner. We took our meal and it was delicious. We took rest for a while and started off on our journey again.

     The boatman tried to reach the destination before the sunset as it was late afternoon. The sun was setting with all its glory. The setting sun reflected on the gleaming water and created an ethereal feeling inside us. The boat moved slowly and we reached our destination. It was dark all round.

     This journey has remained entrenched in my memory. It gave me much pleasure to experience the beauty of the motherland again.

Humanity can be defined as quality of being human; by which s/he is distinguished from other beings. Being human does not mean that an individual possesses humanity. The quality of humanity is what an individual does for people who give nothing back in return to the favour they have been offered.

Humanity means caring for and aiding others whenever and wherever possible and when they need that help the most.

Humanity is the quintessence of the approach that will help us to achieve our maximum potential as a species and not as an individual. Humanity means extending unconditional love to each and every living being on Earth. It is important to understand that an individual’s life is successful not by the number of degrees s/he attains but by the degree of humanitarian activities that s/he does on a day to day basis.

Serving the poor and the disabled is one of the greatest humanitarian helps an individual can provide in his or her lifetime. It is humanity which actually gives the core essence to human existence. You will not need a big bank account to contribute towards humanitarian activities. Paying your domestic help fairly is also humanity. Humanitarian activities should never be performed in order to achieve fame. Lifting the heavy bag of an old woman is humanity, helping a disabled to cross the road is humanity, helping mother in doing work is humanity; in fact helping anyone who is in need is humanity.

We must all come together to show true humanity and help out other humans, animals and our environment to heal and prosper. We must practice empathy, kindness, patience, and humility every day. That is the importance of humanity. As soon as we understand the importance of humanity in day to day life, the purpose for which we are on Earth is automatically fulfilled.

ROOPPUR NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

 ROOPPUR NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

The electricity generating station in which nuclear energy is converted into electrical energy is called a nuclear power plant. It looks like a standard thermal power station. Its heat source is a nuclear reactor. This plant is used as a nuclear fission process to generate steam, which drives a steam turbine connected to a generator that produces electricity.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant  will be a 2.4 GWe nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. It is being constructed at Rooppur in Pabna District, on the bank of the river Padma. It will be the country's first nuclear power plant, and the first of the two units is expected to go into operation in 2024. The VVER-1200/523 nuclear reactor and critical infrastructures are being built by the Russian Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation.

The $12.65 billion contract is 90% funded by a loan from the Russian government. Rosatom will operate the units for the first year before handing over operations to Bangladesh. Russia will supply the nuclear fuel and take back spent nuclear fuel. In October 2023, the plant received its first shipment of uranium.

VVER-1200/523 is one of the latest Generation III  nuclear reactors. Design feature of the nuclear reactor is the layered safety barriers preventing escape of radioactive material.

Reactor building: A concrete containment building is the last line of defense. It prevents escape of radiation and protects it from external damages.

A passive heat removal system had been added to the VVER-1200. The passive systems handle all safety functions for 24 hours, and core safety for 72 hours. Other new safety systems include aircraft crash protection, hydrogen recombiners, and a core catcher.

The IRRS mission of the IIAEA visited the plant and has been satisfied with the safety procedures.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) project  has been considered economically, technically, and financially viable and environmentally acceptable as an option in the long-term sustainable electricity generation of the country.

Prize Awarding Ceremony 

A prize giving ceremony is an event of great joy and enthusiasm to the students and the teachers of a school. On this occasion the school wears a festive look. On this day prizes are distributed to the students for their good results, attendance and their conducts, and for their special performance in various sports and cultural competitions. Our school also organizes a ceremony on this occasion.

The last prize-giving ceremony of our school was held on 25th February, 2022 in a befitting manner. The school was tastefully decorated with coloured papers, green leaves, flags and festoons and flowers. A nicely decorated platform was made for sitting the chief guest, the headteacher, chairman of the governing body and other distinguished guests. The chief guest’s chair and table were beautifully adorned with colourful flowers. The function was presided over by the governing body chairperson.
The Honourable Education Minister was the Chief Guest at the function. When she arrived at the function, the Headteacher, senior teachers and local elites welcomed him with bouquets of flowers. The guardians and the elites of the locality also attended the programme. The volunteers with their distinctive badges were tending to the guests.
The function began at 10 a.m. with a recitation from the holy Quran. Then our national anthem was sung by some students. After that our Headteacher read out the annual report of the school describing the gradual progress of the school. Then the main ceremony began. The Headteacher called each recipient by name and the chief guest gave away the prizes. The award winners were vigorously cheered by all. Then the chief guest delivered a short but instructive speech. He congratulated all the participants, the teachers and the students.
After that a cultural programme was arranged by the students. Songs, dance and recitations were performed by the students. A one-act play was also staged. All these were highly applauded by the audience.
The function came to an end with a thanks-giving speech by our Headteacher. It was quite an enjoyable day. The memory of the day is still fresh in my mind.
